Frequently Asked Questions

How does the program work?

The basic process is as follows:
1. We have a short interview to discover exactly what you are looking for in a chavrusa, what you want to learn, and what schedule we are looking to work with.
2. A suitable chavrusa is found, you are notified, he gives you a call to finalize details.
3. You start shteiging!

What type of schedule is acceptable?

At Chavrusa Connections the choice is yours! We have some people learning for 15 minutes a week, we have some learning 4 hours a day, and everything in between.

Can I choose to learn at any time? What if it's the middle of the night in Israel?

At Chavrusa Connections the choice is yours! We have applicants who are ready to learn with you at all hours of the day.

What type of topics can I learn?

At Chavrusa Connections the choice is yours! We have chavrusos learning Gemara, Halacha B'Iyun, Mishnayos review, Shav Shmaitza, Moreh Nevuchim, Siduro Shel Shabbos, writing together a Kabbala Sefer, and more.
Let us know what your interests are and we will find the perfect match.

What type of Chavrusa can I expect to learn with?

At Chavrusa Connections the choice is yours!
That said, we are primarily working with English speakers in Beitar Illit who have been learning in Kollel for many years.
Want something different? Just ask!

What if I want to learn at a very high level?

We have some top level Talmidei Chachomim on our roster.
During the initial interview we will assess your level of learning and find the perfect match!

What if I don't have experience in learning and need a very patient Chavrusa?

We do that too!
During the initial interview we will assess your level of learning and find the perfect match!

Do you do tutoring for children?

We do. However, before you consider Chavrusa Connections for your child, keep in mind that for many children a tutor over the phone or Zoom is not the optimal choice, unless the child is self motivated and has the ability to focus on a Chavrusa who is not physically present.
If you think that this can work for your child, we are happy to give it a try, and we have had success in the past.

What if the Chavrusa doesn't click?

We almost always get it right the first time, but no one is perfect!
You don't have any obligation to continue with any chavrusa for any reason. If you are not 100% satisfied you can choose to switch your Chavrusa or discontinue the program at any time.
We will generally check in after a few sessions to see how things are going, but you don't have to wait for us, you can reach out at any time.

What if my schedule changes?

You don't have any obligation to continue with your current schedule for any reason. First, if you are otherwise happy with your Chavrusa, communicate your changes with him, he may be able to accommodate the changes. If not, give us a call and we will help you find a new Chavrusa, hopefully as good if not better than the first.

How much does the program cost?

"If you have to ask, you can't afford it."  - J.P. Morgan
Just Kidding!
The standard rate is $50/hour. It's a bargain considering the level of learning you will be able to experience, all the while helping a Talmid Chacham earn a respectable parnassah.
If you have a special circumstance, you can still give us a call and see what options are available.

What if I just want to pay a Talmid Chacham to learn in my Zechus?

We do that too!
A Yissachar - Zevulun partnership is very special project, and we will work with you to find the exact type of Talmid Chacham you want to partner with.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit cards and Zelle. If you have another way you would like to pay, please ask and we will see if we can accommodate you.

What if I am a Talmid Chacham who wants to apply to join your staff?

As you have probably guessed, we currently receive many more applicants than customers.
We also generally like to work with Avreichim that we know personally to ensure proper matches.
That said, we value expanding our network to be able to continue providing quality Chavrusos to all of our customers.
If you have something special to offer, or can accommodate some of the more difficult hours, there is a higher chance of joining our team.
Even if not, it doesn't hurt to be in touch. Maybe the next client's dream Chavrusa just happens to be you!

Do you do regular Shidduchim as well?

I don't see why not! Send over your resume and we will give it a shot!
